The expectations of today’s life and those which we impose upon ourselves, for whatever reason, often puts us under a lot of pressure. The thousand little things which have to be done every day, the countless expectations to fulfill, being permanently online and always having to get things done better, faster, more beautiful … Before you know it, you get caught up in the grinder and lost in it.
The ensemble Contact aims to drop at least some of these expectations and come back to the here and now, a place where close mutual connections with each other are finally possible. They believe that it‘s important to understand that we are similar to a planetary system, inter- connected and functioning as a whole. If one planet was removed, the whole system would fall out of balance and all the other planets would have to be reordered. And so it is with people. An attempt to separate oneself and go it alone can result in a very complicated and unsatisfied life. This of course affects everybody around them as well.
But only if we understand that we are all part of a community – a whole – is it possible to form a real connection to one another. Exchange and communication will take place at a more fun- damental level and we will finally be able to truly understand and connect with each other and thus, with ourselves.
Nehad El-Sayed‘s composition is searching for this connection. The boundaries between the individual sections are blurred by smooth transitions, the pulse occasionally takes a back seat so that the musicians can better focus on one another, effortlessly connecting with each other in order to achieve a common sound, in which time no longer matters.
